Southeast Kentucky needs a vision for the future. The Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is delivering that vision and is developing the leaders to implement it through Patton Leadership Institute.
The Patton Leadership Institute seeks to strengthen the future leadership in regional organizations by developing emerging talent into quality leaders.
The program is designed to find, develop and educate emerging talent from throughout the Chamber’s 8-county footprint about regional differences, opportunities and challenges. The program hosts nine sessions between October and July with each session focusing on the different resources eastern Kentucky possesses and how each community contributes to the whole of the region. Alongside the each session’s focal topic, PLI’s curriculum focuses on leadership professional development topics specific to emerging leaders seeking meaningful growth needed to advance both professionally and personally. They meet and network with current regional community and business leaders, who discuss topics specific to PLI’s curriculum.
During the course of the nine months together each class builds strong bonds and lasting relationships that serve as an invaluable network and business contacts. Graduates leave the program primed to take on increased responsibility in their organizations and respective communities. Each cohort represents the small business, corporate, nonprofit, and governmental sectors.
PLI is the continuation of Leadership Southeast Kentucky program which has been in existence since 2003. That program has transformed into the Patton Leadership Institute.
The program is based on a set of core beliefs pertaining to the creation of leaders in rural communities:
- Engage participants in meaningful ways with each other and business leaders
- Educate each class on the regional assets of eastern Kentucky
- Focus on meaningful expansion of personal & professional development
- Develop, grow and strengthen leadership skills
